Sometime in late 1987 I met a group of black and white photographers through Ann Helms Adams, who as the daughter of Ansel Adams had taken over her family’s business, Museum Graphics. Her company printed a line of cards using her father’s copyrighted images as well as those of newer photographers.  I was easy prey and shortly abandoned color having become addicted to the world of black and white.  We had a darkroom where I worked that had an old 4 x 5 Besler enlarger which made it easy, not to mention cheaper, to develop my own film and make my own prints. My addiction quickly escalated leading to the hard stuff . . . street photography, for which there is no twelve step program of which I am aware.

All of the images in this collection were photographed prior to 2003, the year in which I bought my first digital camera.  I understand the passion with which many photographers still worship film, but digital opened new horizons for me and allowed me to flee the darkroom.  Good for the environment, good for my lungs.  Using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop for post processing enables me to accomplish in minutes what use to take hours in the darkroom.
